This 24-second video illustrates how compressed or contained the recent house price growth figures have been (with all the policy tightening) across 100 major cities, relative to wilder movements in the prior years. 

That's a broader city-index level pattern, may not reflect particular booms and busts in individual cities/districts. The animation shows the year-on-year change (X-axis) vs the month-on-month change (Y-axis) from Jan 2012 to Aug 2021, with the 'bubble' size reflecting the absolute price levels in RMB/sqm.
